Kavin and Marie

As the title says, this is Cheeko's Kavin (the dude) and Marie (the girl). They're in love with each other, but they don't think it will ever work out because their races (marinscol and sun elf) hate each other. And neither one of them realizes the attraction is mutual. Kavin is Marie's bodyguard as they travel before main part of the comic starts, so I imagine that's when this picture happens. I'm also imagining that it's a very warm day, because in my experience, mountains are chilly places that should not be visited without a jacket, and I don't think Kavin would let Marie run around without a coat on. (I also don't recommend traversing mountains in a light colored dress, but that's beside the point)


Kavin and Marie are characters from Cheeko's webcomic One Question. I follow roughly 70 webcomics, but 1Q was the first and has pretty much always been my favorite. I love Cheeko's art, the story, how individual and full of life the characters are, how spot-on (and hilarious) the expressions are, the cool detailed backgrounds, the black/white inking, the characters, the colors, the shading, the way Crysthel is stylized ... have I mentioned the characters? They're awesome. Kavin is by far my favorite, and the biggest disappointment so far is that he hasn't been in the story more ... but that's what I get for getting attached to someone other than the main character. XD Not that I don't like the main character- he's absolutely adorable. I mean look at him and those big red eyes. And Mask, the villain, is so completely awesome in his own villainous ways, I just love him/her/it. And those gods (Old Ones, I think they're called) and things of similar supernatural origin that haven't been explained in much detail yet. And I really want/can't wait to know how they all tie into the same story together. I JUST WANT TO KNOOOOOOOW. But I know it will be worth the wait so I will wait patiently. And did I mention that I love Cheeko's art style? Because I really, really do. I used to want to draw like her (still do, sometimes, but my style has decided to go a different direction and there's nothing I can do about it). Seriously, go look through her gallery right now. Or read 1Q. Or her other comic Blank.

SPEAKING of art- I was really surprised how excited I got about doing this one. It's pretty obvious from my gallery that I hardly ever do fanart because I'm so obsessed with my own characters, but it is fun every now and then. And I decided to try a few new/different things with this, and ended up getting so excited/driven to work on it I barely slept Sunday night. As in, I really did try to go to sleep, but I felt like I had consumed a can of espresso and only managed to sleep for about an hour and a half. Eventually I gave up trying to sleep and started drawing more. And then I seriously couldn't concentrate on doing much of anything else, so I figured I'd just finish it as quickly as possible tonight. Something similar also happened when I was working on this thing last semester. I actually really enjoyed the sleepless obsession with the projects both times ... I just wish it would happen when I'm at home when I can do whatever I want, instead of at school where I have homework and classes and a schedule and stuff. Speaking of which, I need to go take a break from drawing and work on homework. Or level grind one/all of my Pokemon team.

TL;DR: Cheeko is awesome; art makes me hyper.
