I have a new webcomic now, called broken! It's about a fairie general and his army struggling to protect their city-state after an alchemical anomaly brought eldritch monsters into their dimension. If you remember my character [no name] from AATR3, this is the story that spawned from him (no promises on how much resemblance there will be to AATR3 [no name]). There's going to be action, violence, horror, fantasy, magic, and all sorts of other fun stuff, and it's updated every Thursday over here on Smackjeeves. Also: preemptive warning that there will be flashing images at some point, as it is a gif comic.

I will hopefully get around to posting more art here, but life has been pretty busy lately with school and with getting broken started. If nothing else, I'll be posting something every week when broken updates.

Hey everyone, it’s been a while, huh? My life got a bit crazy there for a while (highlights include graduating college, getting a boyfriend, and starting my MFA), but I’m back now with more art coming soon. I really wish I had been able to finish my last round in Artists at the Ready 3, because I was having a ton of fun with my opponent's characters, but sadly it didn't work out.

SPEAKING OF AATR3 do you remember [no name]? Well, he has a story now! More specifically, a story that’s going to be a webcomic starting this summer (tentative start date: mid-June). In addition, I’m working on a related 10 page comic called The Sleepers for Game Board: Now Loading, an anthology my classmates and I are working on that’s currently being funded via Kickstarter. The Sleepers takes place in the same world as [no name]’s story a few years before the webcomic begins, and while [no name] himself won’t appear in it, several other important characters will be there. You can find out more about Game Board on Kickstarter and Tumblr, and I’ll be posting more about it soon. Several reward tiers are already sold out and there’s awesome prizes available for every reward tier, so I’d recommend checking it out soon. We spent our most recent class period reading everyone's work, so I know the anthology is going to be awesome when it’s finished.

Finally, does anyone play Guild Wars 2? I'm Yubria.5671 on Tarnished Coast, typically running around as a dorky Sylvari necromancer.

I'm going to my first Comic-Con soon (the Denver one- just for fun, not selling anything yet) and I'm SO EXCITED. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether I want to go for one, two or three days because, like I said, this is my first one and I'm just going for fun, so I don't know what to expect. I'm totally open to suggestions.

Also, round 1 of AATR3 has been written/loose sketched and it's a whopping 48 pages. Granted, it's 48 black and white half-sized pages, but still. 48. And that's after cutting some stuff out. On the plus side, I know by now I go long with stories, so at least I chose an art style/method for AATR3 that's not too time-consuming.

ALSO THE DRAGON PERSONA CONTEST IS ENDING SOON and we're having a judge/anyone chat time. I might be able to get on sometime late tonight, we'll see. Scratch that- my internet connection won't let me on. But the other judges are pretty awesome, so you should go chat with them if you can.

From the  Journal Entry:

Arr, mateys! The contest deadline be fast approachin', but if you've already got your entries in and are looking for something awesome to do with your time, the  are volunteering our exclusive (albeit pretty empty) chatroom for a night of carousing and conversing! Pop in anytime tonight from 5:00 on and harass your fellow dragons! And who knows, one or two of the Judges might even pop in.

Btw, I have added a folder for the Full Forms category, since we somehow forgot to do that. ^^ Whoops! I know a couple of people raised that question, sorry we didn't fix that sooner! Can't wait to see the rest of the entries, guys! Thanks to everyone who's contributing!

I am chatting with a good friend. I'm pretty sure this happens on Sunday.

Friend: I'm playing Team Fortress 2! It's awesome!
Me: I've heard about that but never played it. But if you play it, I think I will. I just won't download it until the weekend, because I have a lot of stuff I want to get done this week.

I send her links to Portal songs and she gets more or less obsessed with Portal, even though she probably won't be able to play it for a while. We chat about TF2 stuff. My resolve to wait for the weekend weakens.

We don't chat on Monday.

On Tuesday I'm pretty unproductive. Friend and I spend several hours obsessing over Portal, watching her draw the TF2 Medic, and I watch Meet the Pyro and random TF2 videos. She tells me of a way to combine Portal and TF2 which, quite frankly, sounds pretty fun. My resolve weakens, but I manage to strengthen it again as I go to bed.

Wednesday. I am going to make up for my lack of productivity yesterday. But before I start, I try to find the answer to a nagging Portal 2 question that I keep forgetting about. I happen across the unofficial Portal wiki, which promises to destroy productivity. But I will be productive! I am only going to find the answer to my question. I think I found it and am going to get off ... but there's a link to GLaDOS's wiki entry.

I can't just find the Portal wiki and not visit GLaDOS's page. Oh sure- Chell, Wheatley, Cave, the personality cores, and everything else can wait until I have time to kill.

But this is GLaDOS we're talking about.

Obviously, I click the link. I skim down the page, avoiding the parts about the Cooperative Testing, since I haven't played it yet, and stop at the bottom to look at some of the images. Beneath the images are a few lines of trivia, and I can't help but read them ... and I notice that Ellen McLain, the voice of GLaDOS, is also the voice of the TF2 Administrator.

So Team Fortress 2 is downloading now.

I dreamt I was sitting in a white, 15 passenger van and we were driving through the mountains to somewhere. I was talking with the two characters in the two front seats, and someone was sitting next to me. I don't remember what we were talking about, but whatever it was, I was really enjoying myself. I thought for sure that they were two of my characters, but now I have no idea who they were.

Then, for some reason, the dream was interrupted with a scene from Get Smart (as in, the old tv show, which we watch very regularly here). Either that, or one of the characters WAS Maxwell Smart and we visited his apartment briefly. Anyhow- back to the van....

We decided to stop at a gas station for a quick run to the bathroom, but somehow I got done a lot faster than the other two, so I ran back to the van. When I reached the van, I realized the character sitting next to me was talking to  Kydera and they were discussing a future plot point revolving around Kydera. I literally thought "Oh sweet! I never dream about my characters! Now I can talk to her and figure out how she feels about this and everything." So I settled into my seat and tried to pick up where they were in their conversation. Apparently Kydera didn't want to go through with the plot point and the person next to me (who may have been the plot himself) was trying to convince her to go through with it in a gentle-but-firm way that didn't reveal that he apparently already knew what was going to happen and why she needed to do it. So I was eagerly looking for a way to jump into the conversation and figure out how to ask her what I wanted to know....

Then my mom came in and woke me up to ask me something.

I tried to go back to sleep in hopes that my Benadryl hangover (I randomly got really bad allergies a couple weeks ago) would put me out again like it did the last several days, but I was too mentally alert by then. I was hoping for a sequential dream last night (I had the dream Friday night) but no such luck.

And man, I was seriously disappointed about that. Despite how much I think about/doodle my various story characters during the day, I've dreamt about them all of 2 times before now. And in those two times, it was more like the character had a random cameo in one of my usual nonsensical dreams. One other time I had a really cool dream that was something of a mix between a play I had just been to, the game Clue, and a Nancy Drew mystery. That was a pretty awesome dream, and I'm kinda-but-not-recently-sorta making a story out of it. Although I do frequently have dreams where I'm aware I'm dreaming and can control it to a certain degree (I've intentionally woken myself up several times).

...but still. I almost got to talk to Kydi! :noes:
(btw I told my mom about the dream afterwards and she said she was very sorry)

About that question I asked a couple days ago- I decided to go with the simple answer of yes, he can feel pain. A commenter on the comic website said that even if "pain" might not be the best way to describe what he feels, it would be easier to just leave it at "pain" so I don't have to explain it and everything in the comic. After all, it stands to reason that even if you're made of magic, if you can't change your physical form it would hurt no matter what ripped you apart.

Thanks for all the Happy Birthday wishes! :la: I really do appreciate it (even if I'm writing this over a week later).

Aaaaand a hypothetical question for the fun of it: so I've got this character named Unknown. If you read my webcomic you know him as the guy who runs the Alliance. If you haven't read it, well... he's the guy who runs the Alliance. Anyways. His kind is called the essence- it's a very rare kind made of magic, and I've been trying to decide whether or not they're capable of feeling physical pain. A little more info about them: the essence are "born" when there's enough extra magic floating around in the world, and they die when they either use too much magic all at once or their magic is absorbed by something else; they can't eat, but they get their energy by absorbing small amounts of energy and magic from their surroundings; they're technically genderless; their bodies are entirely solid magic, but they can't change their physical form or shapeshift or anything like that. I haven't been able to figure out if they can feel pain because, on one hand, it would be kinda cool to have a character who can't be hurt physically (unless "he" ran out of energy), but on the other hand why shouldn't he feel pain? Either option would have a ton of possibilities to explore for the story. What do you think?

And while I'm finally updating my journal again, are there any iPad owners out there?

I love the Lord, because He has heard
My voice and my supplications.
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

Psalm 116: 1-2

God is so awesome, you guys. We don't even know the half of it. Just the fact that He chose to love us waaaaaay before we would, or even COULD, do anything even in return for Him. And even with all the crap we do anyways, He still loves us and cares about the most insignificant things happening to us. A lot of times I feel like asking God for help in finishing, say, something to do with comic is silly. I mean, God keeps the universe in order, for starters, and there are so many "bigger" things in my life and other people's, why would He care? Doesn't He have enough to think about as it is?

Haha, what a stupid thing to think about an all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful, all-loving God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that He doesn't care about the little things. And if you think about it, you feel closest to people when they tell you about the little things, don't you? Don't you think God wants to know about those too? He wants to have a close relationship with us- that includes the little things.

That just goes to show how stupid we are as humans- who wouldn't want an intimate relationship with the One Who created and controls everything in existence? Yet if I'm far away from God, it's not His fault. He's always right there, ready to take me back as soon as I realize I'm wrong and repent. Because He's so awesome. I mean, He sent His only Son to die in our place because He loves us so much, and all we have to do to get eternal life with God is to believe the truth. To believe and acknowledge that without God we're nothing, that we can't do anything right. It's our fault the world is so messed up, you know- if we hadn't turned from God's way of doing things, things would be perfect, and we fully deserve to die and go to Hell for turning from Him. I mean, He is giving us the choice to live in perfection with Him, but we choose to do things our own way and go to Hell? Where's the point in that? A lifetime of pleasure in turn for eternal damnation? We need God, and the truly amazing thing is that He provided us such a simple way to Him. Jesus Christ- part of the Trinity, fully God and fully man- died for us, satisfying the penalty of our faults with His perfect sacrifice. And because Christ is God and has power over all things, He resurrected Himself. Like I said, all God requires is that we believe that happened- that it's truth, and it IS the truth- and He will give us more than we can imagine in return. How awesome is that? It's really, really awesome.

For You have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
I will walk before the Lord
In the land of the living.

So. I figured it would come to this sooner or later- I'm working on the 2G script (still... getting close to being finished, though) and I can't really push it off any longer- Unknown needs a new title.

He was originally going by "emperor" but that doesn't really work, because technically the Alliance is made up of a bunch of independent kingdoms/states/empires/territories that voluntarily came under his leadership for protection/trade/etc. If they were all kingdoms or something I'd just call him the High King or something, but the Alliance has democracies, monarchies, dictatorship, oligarchies....

A couple titles I've been considering for him:

Chancellor
Lord Protector
Lord Councilor

Any thoughts on these or suggestions for something else?

My dragonsona: fav.me/d3bsnt3

1- It's me in a fantasy body. Not a separate character or anything, just me as a dragon.

2-  What I'm wearing in the linked picture is the clothes I wore to work one day. Sans vacuum cord and paper rolls (I DO work custodial, though).

3- I love dark chocolate.

4- I LOVE the Twilight Zone.

5- Aside from TZ, favorite tv shows are: Project Runway, Wipeout, Scooby-Doo, Mythbusters, Hogan's Heros, and most random shows on the History and SciFi and Science channels.

6- Top favorite movies are: Toy Story 3 (all 3 are awesome, but esp the 3rd one), Up, the Passion of the Christ, and Gladiator.

7- I got two B's and five A's this semester.

8- I have a horse.

9- I can't stand humidity, high heat, and I'm not fond of the beach. I DO love snowy winters, skiing, mountains, and thundershowers.

Ori and Nic:  fav.me/d2ipqfb (Most of the "unpublished facts" about these two are probably spoilers...)

1- They were identical at birth, but as they grew their skin changed color so Ori is pretty much white with light blue eyes, and Nic is dark blue with bright blue eyes.

2- Nic is pretty much exactly what his dad used to look like.

3- Ori got the desaturated color gene from his mom, who is a lovely grey.

4- They get their sense of humor/mischievousness from their dad.

5- Ori and Nic both have their own three-horned unicorns.

6- Their full names are Orafnir Lomas Feurlowe and Oronic Sydri Feurlowe. Nic was named for his father Sydri, and Ori was named for Sydri's brother Lomas. Ori and Nic got their nicknames because "ORI! NIC!" is easier to shout than "ORAFNIR! ORONIC!" when you're doing on a regular basis.

7- They have a HUGE extended family on their dad's side, and it's the type of family that has epictastic family reunions that leaves everyone involved saying, "Man, I'm exhausted. Let's start planning the next one!" but Ori and Nic don't get to visit them often for reasons that remain to be seen (although if you've been reading the comic, you can probably guess).

8- They drive their teachers nuts (but that's sort of a given).

9- They would wear the same clothes every day if their mom let them.

(I'm not tagging anyone this time, but if you want to tag me again go ahead)

Character: Drevir Langstou -> Yubria.deviantart.com/art/the-… No promises on the "unpublished" part, but we'll see what I can pull out of him for this. :)

1- He was originally from another story that I never really considered doing anything with. Same general idea though- notorious murder who can kill people by hitting them with his (right) hand. Then Aldat from Whisper needed a dad, and Whisper looks like it'll actually go somewhere, so Drevir was very willing and filled the position quite seamlessly and *might* have completely stolen the show. Maybe.

2- He almost always wears that coat (or one like it) because #1- he knows he looks epic in it, and #2- Bairusin City (where he lives) is in a rather cold area and people wear coats/winter clothes all the time there.

3- Everyone knows what he looks like, but even if he is seen by tons of people walking down the street in broad daylight (which he has done on more than one occasion) chances are no one will say or do anything because of how disastrously any/all previous attempts at arresting him have ended.

4- He's probably at least 60 years old (long elvish lifespan- sorry Bairusin citizens!) about 5' 7", and considered tall for an elf. Don't call him short, though. He's killed for less.

5- The person he hates most is Judge Levon (last name pending), one of Bairusin City's judges (obviously) and quite possibly the only politician brave enough to stand up to Drevir. Drevir ends up being best friends with Levon.

6- That pendant thingy he's wearing in the picture is his personal symbol- a stylized version of his facial markings. Yes, he's that vain and yes, people recognize his facial markings without any problem.

7- His "ally" he's most... untrusting of is Carad (last name pending), who is a doctor by day and kidnapper/blackmailer/torturer by night. Carad makes people wish they had run into Drevir and died, but isn't half as notorious for the simple fact that he has an alter ego he needs to keep up. And that he's as equally... untrusting/afraid of Drevir.

8- Drevir is *very* fond of his car, which was, naturally, custom-made to do anything he might possibly want it to do, more or less. Actually, pretty much everything he owns has been custom made, since all he has to do is walk in somewhere and demand something, and he gets it.

9- One of the matching henchmen in the picture is Avaia Kovetchi, who used to be part of an organization that was essentially made up of criminal ninjas. Until one day her boss tried to kill her. So Drevir killed her boss instead. I think she's Drevir's girlfriend, but that has yet to be determined.

Hmmmmm... who to choose... who to choose... I think I'll do Kiell www.deviantart.com/print/11305… fav.me/d2pe6nv since I've been trying to develop her a bit more lately (btw, she's from my webcomic --> :iconkeepersofthepeace:)

1- She's married to Iavar (the big bay centaur in the second pic), and has been for about 20ish years. If you get Iavar in the right mood, he will freely admit he doesn't know how he managed to end up with her, but that's another story altogether, and you'll probably read it in the comic sooner or later.

2- I forget how she was initially created, but a relatively recent revamp of her character was inspired by looking at some of the GORGEOUS concept art for Disney's Pocahontas (I should also add that neither of the linked pictures completely 'get' Kiell as she is now. I will fix that soon).

3- I'm still figuring out her personality, but she's a lot of what Iavar isn't- calm, collected, trusting, and not very vocal about her personal opinions.

4- Despite all that, she does still argue with Iavar (rather frequently at times), because 1- she's a person, so arguments are bound to happen, and 2- Iavar's personality isn't the type you can get along with perfectly for any length of time (but she manages it better than most).

5- She's very, very, VERY fast.

6- She has almost nothing to do with the story. She'll be lucky if she shows up in more than 20 pages total, including flashbacks (and considering I'm up to about 120ish pages with 3 and a quarter chapters out of 12... that's not very much).

7- Her design was inspired by the Norwegian Fjord pony. Google it.

8- She's a wild centaur.

9- Well, actually, #8 isn't exactly technically true- she's supernatural. ;)

SO.

What do you guys find most interesting in webcomic banners? Or who/what do you think I should do? Or do you have some random, inspiring pictures? Because I'm all out of ideas, and I've been trying to come up with an idea for a banner for a while. :P

P.S.- I finished Twilight. It was without a doubt the stupidest thing I've ever read. In fact, after the ridiculousness of the meadow scene, I got incredibly bored with it until Bella nearly died. Then it was awesome. Until Edward saved her. :P My roommate tells me in the next book Edward almost dies, so I'll probably read it anyways. XD Still. Incredibly stupid. I honestly wonder how it was even ever published.

ART COLLEGES: I'm currently getting a BFA in Graphic Design at a lib arts university, but I've been thinking about going to an art college once I'm done here, mainly to study sequential art and concept art (comics and art that develops video games/movies/etc.). I wouldn't transfer until I have my BFA here, because 1- I love this place, and 2- Graphic Design is fun and is sure to be a good thing to have under my belt, especially since I hear it can be hard to find a good job in comiking. Anyways, as far as art colleges go, I'm pretty much looking at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) because it has what I want, and one of my teachers got 2 Masters there (she's awesome) and she very highly recommended it. Does anyone have other suggestions, though? I have a whole 7 more semesters to think about it, but it doesn't hurt to plan ahead. :)

iTUNES: Ok, so it's kinda starting to annoy me. A lot. iTunes works fabulously 99% of the time, but it randomly picks songs (my favorites, usually) to start playing halfway through. Has it been doing this to anyone else? Or do you know of a way to fix it? I've thought about re-downloading it, but I don't know what that would do to the thousands of songs on it....

*sigh* 20 days until Christmas vacation. 3 more days until classes start again.
